Here at Shady Patches Farm, our focus is on our soil. We believe the soil should contain a healthy, living network of fungi, bacteria, plants and insects, and when it does: all life based on that soil will grow stronger, healthier, and be more nutritious. These health benefits extend outwards, to improve the health of our consumers, and our Earth. We aim to always provide 'ground armour' (ground cover of mulch or plants), protecting the delicate boundary between what is above, and below ground level. We don't use chemicals, instead relying on plant and insect diversity, compost tea, and paddock rotation to maintain a healthy balanced microculture. At Shady Patches, all life is revered, so while meat is one of our enterprises, we do our best to ensure our animals live their best lives, and are able to socialise and express their basic nature. When it comes to that one bad day, we use animal led behaviours to make it as stress free as possible, including the use of a small, country abattoir.
We have old fashioned values, and do our best to ensure all beings in our universe stay happy, healthy and satisfied. If you're not, please let us know, so we can grow and improve.

But after the soil, its all about You!
When we started out as pig farmers, we found we were able to produce a great product, but then we had no one to sell it to. These days, we find You, the people who are interested in buying fresh, nutrient filled product direct from the farmer, and we create what You want. So. What DO you want? In Western Society, we are programmed from an early age to be polite and always use our manners. When Grandma gave you a cookie and asked you if you liked it, Mum nudged you, and you dutifully replied ‘Delicious, Thank-you’ even if it wasn't. Well forget those manners! We want to know exactly what you think of us. Did we do something well? Great, everyone loves a pat on the back. But did we do something badly? Well that’s even better to hear, because it allows us to see where we need to grow, or change; so we can create even better product for you.
